Rev. Chalon Jackson passed away at the advanced age of 91.  The Gazette would fall far short in its duty if it failed to pay some tribute to the life and character of Rev. Chalon Jackson, who passed to his final rest at his home in Baker Township Saturday, April 28, 1906.  A good citizen, a sturdily honest man, a Christian who exemplified his faith by his works, a faithful and unswerving friend.

Chalon Jackson after having made the world better by having lived in it, was gathered to the great harvest of the life beyond the rolling flood of the river of death "In a full age like as a shock of corn cometh in its season".

A friend and neighbor of the good man who knew him well writes as follows: "After a short illness, Rev. Chalon Jackson crossed over the dividing stream between time and eternity on Saturday, last, praying as he went to the same God he had been serving for the last seventy years, having lived nearly ninety-one years".

He came to Missouri about the time of the close of the Civil War and purchased a farm in Baker Township, Linn County, which he owned at the time of his death.

He was a local preacher for the Methodist Episcopal church for many years, having been a member about seventy years.  Next to his religion came his politics.  He was a Republican in whom there was no guile, always ready and willing to work when his assistance was most needed.  He was an obliging, honest, upright citizen and neighbor.

He reared a large family, nine children (14 known recorded) and the wife of his old age, aged and feeble, survives him.  Services were conducted by Rev. Ed Maguire, and in Pleasant Grove Cemetery the body of the good old Patriarch will rest until the coming of that great day when All shall be called to that life where there shall be no more death.
